This is the design hotel South Tyrol didn’t know it was missing.

Some come for culture. Others in search of nature. And then there’s you –

drawn to form, obsessed with materials, a true aesthete. Design matters to you.

We thought as much. Stay a little longer. Here, you’ll find stories worth discovering about Badhaus – South Tyrol’s most distinctive design hotel.

People & materials: the Badhaus Brixen concept

It’s always people with a clear stance who give an architectural vision its strength: Michaela Wolf and Gerd Bergmeister are exactly those people. As bergmeisterwolf architekten, they wove historic fabric and contemporary design into something almost musical. Their concept for Badhaus is called “Contrappunto” – counterpoint. A rhythm of contrasts that isn’t for everyone. But since you’ve stayed with us this far, we suspect you’ll find the interplay between past and present, openness and intimacy, utterly compelling.

bergmeisterwolf architekten have reawakened a once-sleepy corner of Brixen’s old town, revealing new axes and passageways long sealed away. They opened up an inner courtyard that, in truth, belongs to everyone. Steps for sitting. A fountain. For concerts, readings, encounters.

Badhaus makes the most of every square centimetre in this dense urban setting. A composition of low-rise structures and a slender tower that narrows as it rises, intentionally breaking away from the lines of the buildings around it. The terraces of the lower levels are softened by nature – trees and plants that bring colour to the urban space throughout the year.

How lovely, you’re still with us. Then let’s continue. With the four materials that form the essence of our design hotel –

Clay bricks.

Handmade in Denmark by Petersen, in a shade exclusively developed for Badhaus. Each individual brick bears the thumbprint of its maker. The clay creates both contrast and harmony with the White Tower next door.

Copper.

The material of old bathing fixtures and water pipes. It runs throughout the entire hotel – washbasins on copper feet, fittings and showerheads, electrical wiring, lamps. A quiet nod to what once was.

Ribbed glass.

Translucent bands of light running horizontally through every floor. Made by Metall Ritten. The ribbed glass lets in light without giving too much away – a sense of lightness and privacy at the same time.

Black steel.

Powder-coated. Understated. It frames staircases, corridors and small window openings. Deliberately stepping back to let copper and ribbed glass take centre stage.

Art & craftsmanship: great design at South Tyrol’s leading design hotel

Where does art end and craftsmanship begin? We make no distinction. Both demand utter dedication and true mastery. Both deserve your attention. Shall we walk a little further? Let us show you what we mean.

Michael Fliri’s bathrobe makes quite an impression above Adlerbrückengasse. A photogenic, analogue scroll-stopper that invites reflection. What do you hide and conceal? What do you like to reveal? The Val Venosta artist has another hand in things at Badhaus – quite literally. Across the ceiling of our passage flows his piece “Liquid Starry Sky”, a fluid constellation of hundreds of illuminated ceramic hands.

Water as a reference finds its way into your room as well.

Look closely – Frener Design has translated it into pond-green ash wood across our 21 rooms. Every piece of furniture comes from the master joinery in Chiusa. The washbasins, hand-milled by Bagnara from single pieces of Lake Tahoe quartzite, are also a highlight in their own right. Fittings, bed linen, bathrobes are all from the finest manufactories in Italy.

Letters & seals: Awards, accolades and prizes

The good work of many has not gone unnoticed. Since opening in 2024, Badhaus Brixen has quietly collected a remarkable series of high-calibre awards.

In 2025, the Grand Prix of the BIG SEE Architecture Award. In 2026, the Architekturpreis Südtirol, followed by the German Design Award. The project was also nominated for the EUmies Awards 2026 and the Piranesi Award 2025. At the Premio Architettura Città di Oderzo 2024, the Badhaus Brixen was listed as a featured project. Equally meaningful is the Klimahaus A seal. We are one of only 12 hotels in South Tyrol permitted to call ourselves a KlimaHotel. We can’t wait to hear what you’ll call Badhaus after your stay…
